Tissue Typing Compartment -Histocompatibility laboratory (HLA)

The Tissue Typing Compartment -Histocompatibility laboratory in the Institute for Blood Transfusion of Vojvodina in Novi Sad,  performs HLA typing tests for every hospital managed by the Clinical Center of Vojvodina and the Institute for Child and Youth Health Care of Vojvodina.

The activity of this lab, which uses molecular biology techniques, is primarily related to haematopoietic stem cell transplants, kidney, heart and liver transplants and evaluating diagnoses of diseases associated with certain HLA alleles. 

However, the laboratory staff also dedicates part of their time to designing new tests, protocols and research projects.

At present, the lab is implementing new technologies based on Sanger sequencing, Sequence Based Typing-SBT. This method has several advantages, such as the ability to identify new alleles, clarify indeterminate factors and cut costs and wait time.

The laboratory has been accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) since 2010 and in 2017 renewed the accreditation for the following EFI Categories:

-Renal Transplantation;

-Other Solid Organ Transplantation;

-Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation;

-Transfusion

-Disease Association Studies

covering following activites

• High and low-resolution HLA typing by PCR-SSP/SSO method
• Class I and/or Class II anti-HLA antibody detection and identification by CDC and Bead array methods
• KIR/RBC/HPA/HNA genotyping
• Crossmatching by CDC and Bead array methods
